Don’t betray yourself

Table of contents

There is a question I encourage my clients to ask themselves every day, to stay connected to the vision they hold for themselves and their lives, and to check whether their choices are truly aligned with it.

“Today, have I been true to myself, to the person I have chosen to be and the life I want to create, or have I betrayed myself?”

This summer, my own answer was very clear.

I was betraying myself.

The fact that this could happen to me, despite the knowledge and experience I have developed through years of working with these processes, struck me and made me reflect.

We can understand our patterns deeply, recognise them as they unfold and know exactly where they may lead us, but that does not make us immune to the instinct for protection and survival that tends to draw us back towards what is familiar. It does, however, give us the ability to notice what is happening and choose differently.

I had a very clear vision of what I wanted and had already begun creating it. Then I started making different choices, all perfectly reasonable and logical, until I found myself very close to a reality I did not want. I could recognise the fear, the need to make everything feel safer and the pull of more familiar solutions. Awareness had not been enough to prevent me from entering that pattern, but it allowed me to see it, stop it and reclaim my direction with conviction.

We become what we are accustomed to believing ourselves to be, based on how we have felt, perceived ourselves and behaved over time. That experience becomes familiar, progressively shapes our self-image and influences what we tend to choose, what we consider possible and even what we recognise as right for ourselves.

We can desire something entirely different, believe it is possible, and still carry an inner image shaped by the person we have been until now.

A deep connection with ourselves allows us to move beyond what the rational mind considers possible on the basis of past experience and connect with the highest vision of ourselves — the one we recognise as aligned with our nature and with the life we want to live.

The possibilities available to us are far greater than those we habitually conceive. We are part of the same creative energy from which everything originates, and we can express ourselves through infinite potential configurations of ourselves and our lives. The one we choose to focus on, recognise as possible and progressively make familiar becomes our experience.

Meditation plays a fundamental role in this process for me. Bringing our attention fully into the present moment interrupts the constant reference to the past — to what we have lived, known and believed ourselves to be until now. By temporarily detaching from our perception of the body and the physical world, we can also remain simply as thought, as pure awareness, free from the references and limitations through which we are accustomed to perceiving ourselves and reality.

In that state, we can project ourselves into the future configuration we have chosen and experience it inwardly as present, feeling what we would feel if it were already ours and experiencing its emotions and sensations.

By repeating this experience, the configuration we have chosen progressively becomes familiar. When we return to physical reality, we bring with us the way of feeling, perceiving ourselves and acting that belongs to it, until we are able to sustain it with our eyes open, in everyday life. That new identity then becomes our natural way of being, and we spontaneously begin to choose and act from it.

Our mind needs coherence between our self-image and our way of being. When that coherence is missing, something feels out of alignment. Meditation and daily practice allow us to make a new image of ourselves, and everything that belongs to it, progressively familiar, so that we are no longer bound to the previous image and the reality that follows from it.

Waiting for the external world to change before we can finally feel different means continuing to choose from the identity that has produced our reality until now, repeating the same patterns and effectively making real change impossible.Working only on behaviour, without an identity shift, instead requires a constant effort to behave differently from what feels natural and, sooner or later, we tend to return to what is familiar.

Over the years, I have experienced many times just how powerful this state of connection can be. I have had very precise insights and experienced many remarkable synchronicities, sometimes extraordinary ones. And yet, even I can forget the power of something I know and give it less space than it deserves. My own experience makes it clear how important it is to remain present with ourselves every day, through practice and the questions we ask ourselves, until that new configuration has become familiar and part of our identity.

This summer, when I reconnected deeply with my vision, I remembered who I am and why I had chosen it. I looked at what I was doing and could no longer recognise myself in my own decisions. I had already invested time and energy, but I stopped what I was building and reclaimed my direction.

The sense of freedom was immediate. Energy, imagination and the desire to create returned, along with possibilities I had gradually stopped seeing. I began once again to build and expand that vision.

We can recognise a pattern perfectly, have an extraordinary insight or see with absolute clarity what we are doing and still continue doing it. Insight and understanding allow us to see. Change is determined by the decision we make and the consistent practice that follows that decision.

When we free ourselves from the conditioning of the past and make a new vision familiar, potential becomes reality and our expansion continues.

If you are ready to free yourself from the conditioning of the past and create a new reality, contact me through the form and prepare for an extraordinary journey of personal transformation and evolution.
