It’s a lovely way to start the day — but sometimes I take breaks and go at other times, because the fastest way to shift a physical or mental state is to act on your physiology and get moving.
A few years ago, during a health summit, I heard Mark Hyman — one of my favourite doctors and a leading figure in functional medicine — simply recommend: “Do whatever you can.”
Life isn’t always kind, and sometimes it can be very hard, even impossible or counterproductive, to work out. However, a physical issue or emotional discomfort shouldn’t become an excuse to do nothing. I remember Hyman saying, “If all you can manage is to get out of bed, walk to your front door and go back to bed — then do that.” One step at a time, done consistently, leads to great results.
Brisk walking improves blood circulation and oxygenation of organs and tissues; it positively stimulates the nervous system; and it helps ease tension and anxiety caused by stress — especially if done outdoors, in nature, and during daylight hours.
So every time I feel a little tired or sluggish, when I need to give the day a bit of a twist, but also whenever I’m in a good mood and want to amplify and prolong that sense of wellbeing — I go.
There are many things I do daily for my wellbeing, but this is by far the simplest, incredibly effective, doable by almost anyone, and therefore one I wholeheartedly recommend — especially to those who turn their nose up at exercise and live glued to desks, armchairs, chairs, and sofas. 😉
Shake your booty and have a nice day! 🔥
